About Me

I'm a Portland-based, multi-platform journalist who loves a juicy story. I've covered many topics, however I tend to specialize in marketing, technology, and personal finance. I enjoy learning about what makes people and businesses tick and then sharing those stories with a wider audience.

What I Do

I'm an associate editor at Street Fight, a media and research company that focuses on the intersection of location-based services, locally-targeted deals, and hyperlocal news networks. I report on how local merchants and national retailers are using technology to market their businesses in new and innovative ways.

When I'm not writing about the business of hyperlocal, you can find me reviewing the latest web-applications at AppVita, chatting about business travel on FlyerTalk's blog, The Gate, and covering the world of personal finance for Working World magazine and American Express OPEN Forum. I also work with small businesses to help develop digital marketing strategies and online content with an emphasis on search engine optimization and social media integration. I've worked with companies including Yodle, American Express, RightSignature, Copilot Labs, and Magnt.

Before moving to Portland, I wrote for Gawker, Cityfile, Bundle, and FHM magazine in New York City. I also wrote and edited popular lifestyle blogs including Cool Hunting, Recessionwire, The Budget Fashionista, See Jack Shop, and Halogen Life. In 2011, I edited The State of the Medical Marijuana Markets, the first-ever research report on medical marijuana as a legitimate business industry.

I graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism from California State University, Chico, and studied abroad at King Juan Carlos University in Madrid, Spain. As an undergraduate student, I interned for the Red Bluff Daily News, and wrote for the Chico Enterprise Record, Inside Chico State, and Transitions Abroad, a national travel magazine dedicated to working, studying, and living abroad. I also served as an editor at The Orion, an independent, student-run newspaper in Chico, Calif.

If I'm not at my desk, I'm most likely working on my latest home renovation project or chasing around my French Bulldog, Tinsley Mortimer Miles.
